When I first started my website, YouTube channel, social medias for Crit Hit The Giant one and a half years ago, I really had no idea or vision on what I was going to do with it. At that time, I was just learning about Critical Role, and I knew I wanted to get into Dungeons And Dragons and other tabletop roleplaying games (TTRPGs). But I had no idea what I was doing or how I was going to do that. I just knew that I wanted to share my experience and journey with everyone.
That was 2023. Now it’s 2025… and I still don’t know what I’m doing.
I have a full time job so I don’t have the luxury of doing this (whatever this is) as a full time gig, so I try to use the little time I have outside of work, family, and playing games to share out whatever I’m excited about. And last year was also a tough year for me. I had a lot happened. Over the summer I was in a car accident (thankfully everyone was okay) so we had to get a new car. I also found out that my work team had to let go a lot of employees and my direct team was all slashed, including my direct supervisor. I was the only one left from that team. So I’m thankful I didn’t get let go, but that doesn’t mean I have job security because this year may be different and they may decide to get rid of my department completely.
On the same day I found out about my team being RIF’d, I also found out that a really good friend of mine from college died suddenly of a heart attack.
We also had to put our dog to sleep just last week. She lived a good 16 years, but it’s still tough. So a LOT happened last year.
But there were a lot of good things that happened last year, too.
I got to go to GenCon as a member of the press, where I was invited to the Dungeons & Dragons Press Event and see some of the upcoming projects and updates. I also got to interview a lot of great people and companies about their games and what to expect from them in the future.
I got alpha access to the new D&D 3D Virtual Tabletop (VTT) platform, Project Sigil.
I also finished playing my first D&D campaign that I started in 2023 and though it was a bitter sweet moment when it came to an end, we’re playing another campaign and having just as much fun doing it.
At the beginning of 2024, I remember telling someone that I had no interest in becoming a Game Master because I wasn’t really confident in myself to do that. Now, I’m running a game for my kid and his peers at our local gaming store, for my friends who always wanted to play D&D but never had the chance to, and now I’m running a game through Start Playing Games for other people who want a chance to play.
My kid also loves running 1-on-1 D&D games with me, so now we do that regularly where we take turns being the DM and running an impromptu game with each other.
I also got to celebrate my 40th birthday by going to D&D In A Castle and played in an awesome campaign and made some great friends there. And it’s by far one of the greatest experience I’ve ever had that I encourage everyone to try to go to sometime (albeit it is expensive, but they do make it worth the cost).
I got to run a couple of actual play one-shots which was a lot of fun.
And probably a lot more that I’m forgetting as well, too.
So going into 2025, I can’t say that I know what I’m doing with this still. I’m still just using these platforms to share my journey and love for playing TTRPGs.
But here’s some things I’m hoping to do:
- Continue to make videos and articles about all things related to TTRPGs
- Video interviews with people, businesses, and organizations in the TTRPG space
- Create a podcast about Baldur’s Gate 3 and Forgotten Realms
- (Hopefully) join an Actual Play group
- Finally read all of my TTRPG books that I’ve collected over the past year
- Go to more gaming conventions (such as Origins and PaxU)
- Run a Daggerheart and Candela Obscura game
- Make a barbarian character for each official subclass that exists
So even though I don’t know what I’m doing, that’s not stopping me from doing anything.
If you’ve been following me for a while, I really appreciate it and I hope I am supporting you in whatever it is you’re doing. And if there’s anything that you’d like for me to cover or talk about in this upcoming year, please let me know. I always love hearing from people how I can help them venture through this space and I am always more than happy to help.
So here’s to a new year and a new journey. Let the new adventure begin.
